Any way the end-use can modify Merge Text so that the “left” option is the default, instead of “top”? Thats’ the one I use 99% of the time.

  2. Justin says:

Have you tested to see that there’s a difference? I believe that the second-level sorting for “top” is “left.” So they should work the same in most cases.

Hi, any script to Update All Legacy Text in Illustrator?
I cannot insert it in an Action….
    Thnx

      1. Claudia says:

Thank you Justin for the quick answer, probably I wasn’t clear enough. I know this feature, but it seems Illustrator does not allow to insert it in an Action (I’m using cs2), and since I need to Update All Legacy Text in 3000 eps files I was wondering if there’s a script to insert it in an Action and do it automatically on batches.
        Thnx

      2. Justin says:

CS2? Not sure I can be of much help there. That feature might be worth upgrading.

Will you please share code for newOminoDialog, which is used in MergeTextframes script in Indesign . As I debug without installing it gives an error.
    Please let me know

    1. Justin says:

What are you debugging? The old version of MergeText?

I have designed a product catalogue in InDesign. Each product has a unique product code mentioned . Now I got an excel file from client with updated product codes. Excel has 2 columns. 1 with old codes and second with new code. I want to update all of them in one go, with out manually going to each product and replacing it with new code. Is there a way this can be automated.

    1. Justin says:

Yes, but not my area of expertise. You’ll want to look up “data merge.” The solution is likely there. If not, it may require scripting.

  6. Vertical
Sorting Swatches is quite difficult, isn’t it?

    1. Justin says:

It used to be a tricky operation, but it’s now built into InDesign.

Hi! i’ve just installed the Split Text script but i was wondering if the script could maintain text frame threads and create new threads to follow the same flow as the original text frames? the issue i’ve found is with numbered lists, when the frames are split and un-threaded the lists restart with each frame

    1. Justin says:

That’s something I could consider for the future, but it does sound tricky. Each frame would probably need a frame break character added to ensure the text ended up in the intended frames (instead of bleeding into each other).

Is there anyway to make in5 export works on pitcher platform? Which the project can be view in “thumbnail” and swap from left to right?

    1. Justin says:

This is the first that I’d heard of Pitcher, but many Sales Enablement platforms are able to ingest outside HTML. According to this document, it can author HTML5 content: https://www.pitcher.com/hubfs/case-studies/TEI_of_Pitcher.pdf

My guess is that you would be able to upload HTML5 content from in5 as well, but you should check with Pitcher to be sure.

You can use the demo version of in5 to test at no cost: https://ajarproductions.com/pages/products/in5/download.php

    Hello.
I am developing an interactive report from Indesing to export as interactive PDF.
This document has links to other pdfs that will be hyperlinked.
Is there an option that when I open the final pdf and click on those links, the pdf it calls to is displayed in another Acrobat window, without replacing the original?
What is the best option to display those linked pdfs?
    Thanks!!!

    1. Justin says:

This cannot be controlled in an interactive PDF. If you export with in5, you can control which window that links open in. More info: How to Add Advanced HTML Hyperlinking with in5

Unable to use the Assign URLs to Buttons (article is now offline | download) link.

    Please help!

    1. Justin says:

Here’s the link to the installer, but it’s old and you may need a 3rd-party ZXP installer app: https://ajarproductions.com/go/cc.php?btnURLs

I can’t provide much support or documentation as it was largely in the Adobe article.
