InDesign to in5 to WordPress

in5 (InDesign to HTML5) makes it easy to create HTML from InDesign. You can take the HTML right to the web, or convert it into a mobile app.

The new WordPress plugin makes the publishing part just as easy!

The Old Way

Before this new plugin, the process to include in5 (or any) HTML content on your WordPress posts would involve the following steps.

  1. Upload the HTML to a web server and copy the address.
  2. In the WordPress post editor, switch to Text (code) view.
  3. Insert manually created <iframe> code that points to the address of the file posted via FTP.
  4. Look up the height and width of your document and adjust the <iframe> code as needed, adding manual CSS styling.

This isn’t terrible, but it does involve 1) using an FTP client, and 2) writing some HTML.

If these are two things that you’d rather avoid—or if you just really like a simple publishing option—then you’ll love the new in5 Embed plugin for WordPress.

The New Plugin Process

  1. Zip your in5 content (if you exported as an HPUB or Liquid State Publishing System, then this step is already done for you).
  2. In the WordPress post editor, click the Add in5 Embed.
  3. In the Add new section, upload your .zip (or .hpub) file.
  4. Select your options and choose Insert into post.

And you’re done! No FTP, no coding.

Don’t believe it’s that easy? Check out the video below.

What Can You Make?

The short answer is anything.

Your content doesn’t have to look like a book.

You can create InDesign animation that looks like a banner, for example. Check out the content in the video above.

You can even create a transparent page background when you export using in5, so that your content will blend in seamlessly with your post.

Installation

You can install right from WordPress.

  1. Select Plugins > Add New
  2. Type in5 into the search field.
  3. Click the install button.
  4. Click the activate button.

Any Chance there will also be a Joomla plugin?

      Hi Nick,
It’s not on the roadmap right now, but I would consider adding it if there were enough requests and/or customers who were interested in funding it.

Any chance there is a Joomla plugin for this?

  4. Tiffany says:

I am using in5 and the in5 embed on wp. I have embedded youtube videos into the doc using iframe…. however, when I upload to wp I none of my embedded videos show… am I doing something wrong or is this a limitation of the plug-in?

    1. Justin says:

It may be that you’re trying to load an insecure frame into a secure site.

Check the console for error messages when loading the page:
      https://developers.google.com/web/tools/chrome-devtools/console/

If that’s the case, then updating the iframe links to https:// could resolve the issue.

      1. Tiffany says:

It was that simple. Thank you!

      2. Justin says:

Nice! Glad to hear it. 🙂

Good morning, we have problems inserting an html5, I already sent you the error, can you help us, or what should we do.

    1. Justin says:

If you’ve sent us the info directly, then we’ll follow up with you there. Thanks! 🙂

    Hi

The plugin works nicely for web pages but I’m not sure if it works for apps? I have tried but can’t get it to work… is it possible to load an ipad up onto wordpress?

  7. Anne says:

    Hello.
Does your in5 application exist in French?

  8. Jatinder Rawat says:

Will the in5 added to the post/page as iframe embed code? If yes, then is is possible to have it direct html code of in5 instead of wrapped in iFrame embed code?

    Please confirm.

    Regards,
    Jatinder Rawat.

  9. Jackie says:

Good day, i have the wordpress plugin, i have in5 and i have zipped my file, uploaded it, nothing happens – seems so simple on your video. New to this, please advise.

    1. Justin says:

We’ll be happy to take a look that. I recommend opening the console while you do it to see if any errors appear. Take a screenshot and then reach out to us directly so that can follow-up in depth: https://ajarproductions.com/pages/contact.php
